When we said we'd be biking around Iceland we knew there would also be some hiking involved in the process... but today's climb still took us by surprise. On the way from Breiddalsvik to Egilsstadir the ring road goes over a mountain that according to our GPS was 490 meters high. And that's pretty high, if you have to push your bike up there...
It took us about an hour to get up to the mountaintop, literally covered in a cloud, but much less to get down. We were left wondering about the small hut almost on the top. A shelter for drivers stuck in the snow? The mountain ranger's home? The ultimate hermit's summer cottage?
Sounds tough. I hope the next day will be easier.
